I would like to take this opportunity to update you on some of Project Alpha's activities over the last couple of months. 

As you know, Alpha has worked since 2011 to improve the implementation of trade controls in order to prevent nuclear proliferation.

As a reminder, our three main strains of work are: 

1. Understanding illicit trade;

2. Improving the implementation of trade controls by governments and the private sector;

3. Informing and improving international efforts to prevent proliferation. 

Events

On the 29th March,Project Alpha will hold a workshop on the subject of intangible technology (export) controls. The event is intended for practitioners in industry and academia. The purpose is of the event is twofold:

• To examine practical measures that industry and academia can take to implement intangible technology controls. This will include consideration of issues such as approaches to internal compliance, the storage of information (I.e. Cloud computing) and the need for contractual language concerning export controls with research partners, distributors etc.
• To collate views on a study prepared by KCL on the subject of intangible technology controls which is intended to inform the review of the EU regulation, 428/2009. This study is funded by an agency of the Swedish government and a draft of this report will be circulated to those who attend. 

The event is free to attend and is being undertaken under the auspices of the Project Alpha ‘partners’ initiative. It will take place on the 29th or March, at King's College London's Strand Campus, and will run from 10am to 3pm. Click here for more information and to rsvp.

New Website

The Project Alpha website has moved to a new domain, http://projectalpha.eu/. This contains all of our past resources, as well as a multitude of new features, making our research more accessible and easier to navigate than ever. To consolidate our involvement in the implementation of the Iran Nuclear Deal, we have also launched a new website on behalf of UNSC Resolution 2231, adopted on 20 July 2015 in support of the long-term plan agreed by the international community under the JCPOA. This contains useful guidelines, references and contacts with regard to Resolution 2231 and the JCPOA, as well as additional information about Iranian nuclear trade and designations.  

Alpha on Iran  Following implementation day of the Iran nuclear agreement, we have recently made available a wide range of resources on Iran through a series of case studies and articles covering issues relating to sanctions, procurement for Iran's nuclear and ballistic missile programmes and technical aspects of Iran's nuclear activities. 

EU Partner to Partner Programme on Dual-use Goods. On the 1st September 2015, a new consortia that includes Project Alpha took over implementation of the EU Partner to Partner programme on dual-use goods (formally called the EU outreach program on dual-use goods.
